The European "Finistère" (1st millennium BCE)

The map (east at top) shows links between the Mediterranean and northern seas. The island between the two was never very wide. Major river valleys, including Atlantic ones, facilitated crossing. Important raw materials (metals, amber…) but also people (slaves, mercenaries) could thus be drained toward the more technologically advanced Mediterranean East.
